Our Story

How it all started...

One morning, Katy Kisiah called her son, Pastor Johnny Kisiah and said, "Sonny, I want you to come over, I have something to tell you." She told him that she had had a dream in which she saw a Church in the Six Mile Community. It was white with red roses around it.

The most important factor in walking  with God is hearing His voice and keeping in-step with His timing.

It was sometime after the dream that Pastor Kisiah was touched with a desire to start a Pentecostal work in the Six Mile Community. So he shared his concern at a prayer meeting and everyone seemed to be in agreement. He then shared his burden with the Yoakum Section Assembly of God board and was given permission to start an Assembly of God Church in Six Mile Community.
On March 5th, 1989, the work was started at the Kisiah home with 16 members.

Growing...

It was June 4th, 1989, that it moved to the Six Mile Inn building which was once a Tavern. After some fixing up and painting, we stayed there for almost 2 years.
The Czech Grocery Store become available and we moved on May 5th, 1991. Wonderful times were experienced in those buildings all because of following the leading of the Holy Spirit in whatever was done.
The property across the road, that once housed the Music Box Dance Hall but had burned down, became available for purchase. At this time Six Mile Assembly bought the land.
A short time later, during Sunday School, the class was studying on crossing over on the other side into the Canaan land. Joshua was leading and when the Priest's feet touched the water the water rolled back. That's when the need was felt to build a new Church building.
Pastor Kisiah can still recall it like it was yesterday, "There's no way to explain it." There was $36,000.00 in the building fund. A member, Sis. Ann Boyd said, "Let's everyone bring the money from off your dressers and piggy banks." That night, a couple arrived at Pastor Kisiah's house with their piggy bank of $40,000.00
It was June 5th, 1994 with one of our men Raymond Goynes along with Russel Janak and workers from the church that we launched out to build by faith as the money came in. But actually the building never stopped. The money kept coming in until, at last, the building was complete. Fully paid for. We moved into the new building March 12, 1995 while it was still under construction. We marched across the highway, and Katy Kisiah did too, with our folding chairs, singing "When the Saints Go Marching In". The floors were uncarpeted and there were no pews or furniture, but we had Church. Shortly after this, different ones in the church donated pews in memory of their loved ones. The pews are made of sycamore wood, like the tree that Zacchaeus climbed to see Jesus. It makes Pastor Kisiah think that we are all sitting and anticipating the coming of the Lord Jesus.

Where we are headed...

In 1995 we started a Christian School and at one time had over 70 students. Many little ones grew, not only academically but spiritually. It seemed the Lord changed our ministry direction and the school closed in 2004.
We have had a few projects since then. The parking lot was redone, then expanded. A Fellowship building was built followed by another building for Sunday School, Youth and Children's Church with an awning over the walkway..
If you haven't guessed it yet, they were all fully paid for when completed!

God had been good to us.
